My kids don't sew (yet, altho I made all our curtains - see my kitchen pix - and most of our bedspreads), but these clothes were tres expensive business suits. They could take them to a tailor and have them remade far less expensively than getting the same thing new! A couple of years ago I took the shoulder pads out of a linen suit jacket from the 90s that I still wear but with patterned pants. Good classic clothes last a long time!

I'm with Nick on the one year rule. Besides, the idea that I could wear anything I owned in high school is laughable considering how pathetically skinny I was back then. I do have 2 pairs of shoes from high school that I still wear, but that's because they're still in good shape and I'm too cheap to buy shoes.

Also, because I donate my old clothes, I try to make sure that I don't wear them out too much. I'd rather pass along clothes that are gently used that worn out, because I know that the people who receive them need clothes that are still nice.

Do your kids sew and make their own clothes regularly? I can't imagine re-making something! But, I'm not very domestic.

I do side with this though: if you haven't worn it in 1 year - donate or trash it.

I've got some shoes from 2000 (that are really just re-issues of a 1991 shoe). I like old clothes... certain comfort that comes from them. I won't be wearing a Hyper-Color t-shirt with a Swatch anytime soon though.

LOL. I actually have a silk/linen suit that whatshername wore on Moonlighting (it was expensive!). It doesn't fit. It's hidden in my closet, but it was NICE! I also have a suit I bought in 1980. I am thinking my kids might want them. Maybe remake them! I have such a hard time throwing things out. Now I am selling in eBay to keep us going til we get jobs (augh!). Thanks for commenting on the blogging. It helps ME to blog!

Okay... completely in Christian love, I would say it's time to do a little closet-cleaning! Keep the mink and the shoes, donate everything else! If there's anything that the people on Moonlighting would have worn, it's time. And I'm pretty confident Jesus is shaking his head about the (presumably puffy and colorful) 1986 coat right now. ;)

BTW, glad you're back to blogging. Missed you!
