I Can Kill People!

Posted by Vanity of Vanities! on December 1, 2008

Well, I figured if anything would get your attention, that would.  :)   But, it’s true!  I can!  (I won’t; don’t worry.)

This past Friday, I got to shoot a gun for the very first time in my life!  I’ve always wanted to shoot guns.  I don’t want to kill anyone or anything; I just want to shoot inanimate objects and be really good at it.  I have typically been less interested in rifles and shotguns and more interested in pistols, but it didn’t matter.  I got to shoot a GUN!  I feel like I have all this power now!

Anyway, we went skeet shooting.  I was invited to go with my husband, my brother-in-law, and my father-in-law.  I thought they were joking because, although I didn’t know what a skeet was, I certainly didn’t want to kill it.  I mean, even if an animal is ugly, I don’t want to kill it.  But, it turns out that skeet are (I have no idea if that word is singular and plural, but “skeets” sounds stupid) orange things that automatically fly out of little holes in walls and you shoot them and shatter them to pieces.  Well, you try to at least.  I never hit one.

But it was SO fun!  I have a pretty bruise on my right bicep where I was holding the shotgun incorrectly the first go-round, but it was so completely worth it!  I had a freaking blast.  I want to shoot everything.  Well, you know, everything that doesn’t live.  And to top it off, my husband said I have never looked cuter.  He laughed every time I reacted to the kickback.  Well, I’d rather him say that I’ve never looked more intimidating and dangerous, but whatever.  He finally took  me shooting!  After six and a half years!

So, when do you want to go shoot things with me?!  I think the next place I want to go is to one of those places where you shoot people-shaped paper targets and you try to shoot through their heart.  I can pretend like I’m in the FBI.  That’s cool, because I used to want to be a secret agent.

Seriously.

My hubby wants me to learn to shoot a gun. I know I probably should, but I was held up at gunpoint when I was a teenager and ever since I’ve been pretty skittish around guns.

But I gotta admit, I’m a little envious that you got to shoot skeet (I don’t think “skeets” is a word unless there is some kind of Redneck derivative.) It’s such a non-girly thing to do; and I’m all abou that. I have a friend that looks like the poster child of the girly girl — blonde hair, fancy clothes, etc. But she rides a Harley and for her birthday a few years ago her husband bought her an assault rifle.

  2. I’m not a gun guy (A travesty for a Texan male I know) but I went skeet shooting recently as well. Freaking fun. I don’t know the name of the shotgun I fired, but it was enough to knock my shoulders back a couple times (and I have a big shoulder) Keep practicing!

Your title cracks me up. It definitely got my attention.

I, too, love to shoot guns, though I do it rarely. I need to get out and practice more often, because I know that I would feel better about being capable of protecting myself and Laura if I were more skilled at handling the guns we have.

Hmmm We can go after you practice a little more, and make sure the only people you’re shooting are paper ones. *smile*

I’ve never shot a real gun, but my favorite game is Police Trainer. If you ever go to an arcade or Dave and Buster’s it’s a lot of fun. I’ve always been pretty good at it, so I think maybe I’d have a chance at a real pistol.

No way-I wanted to be a secret agent too. I really researched it. I wanted to be one of those undercover people who was a “high school student” and busted people for drugs, etc. I looked in the FBI but then it said about the commitment having to work on a lot of holidays and I realized long term I didn’t want to be apart from my family like that. God had other plans. =)

I like to shoot but have done a hand gun (shotgun will be next Jeremy says) and it hurts my finger after a little bit. If you come up here Jeremy and I will go with you guys to the shooting range (Jeremy knows some b/c of the CG and loves to shoot! He hasn’t done skeet shooting but wants to).

Hope all is well. Blessings to you with your kids your subbing. =) What an adventure. Glad you’re growing in Christ with all your life situations.
